Ka-Ho (Chilam) is an undercover cop for over three years in a gang. He could not wait to have this operation done with and return to the police force. Dan (Michael) is a ex-mercenary in the state where he undergo countless ruthless training and painful experience, command such great respect from the other gangster that they felt honored to be his follower. Never deal with such opponent before, Ka-Ho felt a sense of stress when facing him especially when his piercing dark blue eye seemed to see him through. In one operation, due to a mistake being made, Ka-Ho was shot by a police. When he recovered, his superior started to distrust him. They mistook Ka-Ho's diligence for pretense. Ka-Ho become despondent... When Ka-Ho bump into his ex-girlfriend- Ah-Fei (Gi Gi Lai) again, he made up his mind to quit the job and marry her. When Dan suddenly show up and told him about the deal which was to smuggle a couple of rockets from Soviet Union to Iraq via China and Hong Kong. Ka-Ho decide to follow Dan while Ah-Fei went to tell his superior. While they were on their way, Ka-Ho was very amazed to learn about Dan's unique philosophy of life. Dan seemed to see through life and somehow he didn't want this journey to end. Before crossing the Hong Kong boarder, Ka-Ho made a call to Ah-Fei and told her to inform the Hong Kong Police about their whereabouts in Hong Kong. But as they cross the border, Ka-Ho could not find any strategic move from the police. He felt despondent aand believed that the police never trusted him at all. Soon, the plain clothes police turn up. When Dan realised he was enclosed, his anger could no longer be suppressed. He treatened to explode the rockets so that he could have escaped in chaos. Ka-Ho tried his best to stop this disaster and the fight between virtue and evil began... More about this movie (Reported by Michelle): 2) This is Chilam's 1st movie under his contract with Media Asia & I think that his image here is very different from the rest, anyway, it's his first time as an undercover and is a refreshing changefrom the usual cop roles... 3) This is the show where Anita & Gigi quarrelled during the filming. Coz' Chilam & Gigi were filming a bedscene ( which was censored in S'pore ) and Anita was there to watch the filming, claiming that she happened to pass by or something like that..... Movie Critics NEXT - Master criminal Dan easily escapes under heavy police obstacles,during the escape undercover cop Ka Ho is injured by an uniform officer and is even suspected by his superior Officer Wong to be a traitor. Ka Ho in order to prove his innocence teams up with Dan to traffic arms, hoping to obtain some evidence in the way and clear his name... Long term partners Cha Chuen-yee and Chung Kai-cheong, famous for their low budget thrillers involving perverse killers, is asked by Media Asia to try their hands on a semi-big budget action film. As a company emphasizing on management and accounting, Media Asia is counting on the budget-conscious creative team to deliver more punch for their bucks. The film is essentially a road movie shot in outer Mongolia and is best remembered for trying to squeeze every ounce of charisma out of Michael Wong who plays a lovable anti-hero trying to convert undercover cop Cheung Chi-lam. This film retains the absurdist narrative style of Cha Chuen-yee and Chung Kai-cheong, a style which y-ielded great result in their two Once Upon a Time in Triad Society films but doesn't really work here. For the two previous films are dealing with genre, using style to play with style and therefore distinguished and fun. But Theft is a traditional cop-and-robber actioner; the filmmakers want to have it both ways, going mainstream on one hand while playing with subversion on the other and the result is a film that goes nowhere. The script lacks tension and character psychology is often contradictory. What a pity. - Shu Kei Theft Under the Sun is proof that, with adequate resources, the creative team at Concept Link is able to come up with powerful productions without giving up on thoughtful details and concepts. Letting a concept to dictate a story is rare among current Hong Kong films, yet it still manages to mesh with the characters and the drama, developing into a rather complete construct. Treading on the often-traveled "punk and cop" path to explore uncovered ground, the film is an exciting step forward. Cheung Chi-lam turns in a surprising performance, showing for the first time the depth of his acting skills. - Loretta Chang A great premise: extending the paradigm of the undercover film, changing the angle to look at the undercover cop's return to the force, thus bringing out the issue of trust. However, before the film has any chance to digest the premise, the camera has switched to the two characters going through a heroic trek in the mountains. Their endeavor is interrupted by scenes of the psychologist (Francis Ng) analyzing Cheung Chi-lam's psychological changes, which are shown to be markedly different, because, from beginning to end, he has never let Michael Wong talk him into switching over. - Ye Nianchen Using light touches to handle the story of an undercover cop's meeting with a charismatic thief, the film has a fair share of drama scenes that illustrate how two men can breakthrough barriers of class and status to develop a friendship. The ambiguity of good and evil makes a seasoned viewer of standard cop-and-robber film like me confused. Fortunately, the scriptwriter labors to clarify the sexual orientations of Cheung Chi-lam and Michael Wong, thus shutting up the audiences, who are prone to let their minds go down a deviant path, and
